Sarah E. Avedschmidt, MD

Dr. Avedschmidt is a dedicated forensic pathologist licensed to practice in California and Michigan. Based in Sacramento, California, she holds contracts with multiple northern California and Michigan county offices to perform autopsies. Since beginning her practice in 2018, she has maintained board certifications in anatomic, clinical, and forensic pathology. She also served as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Michigan from 2018 to 2022.

Dr. A. received her medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She completed a four-year residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Michigan, followed by a one-year fellowship in forensic pathology at the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office in Detroit.

With over 2,000 postmortem examinations performed, Dr. A. brings significant experience to her practice. Her detailed and methodical approach ensures thorough examinations and reliable results.

Dr. A. is fluent in both English and Spanish, facilitating effective communication and testimony to a wide range of clients. In 2018, she was part of a team that traveled to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria to support relief efforts at the Institute of Forensic Sciences. Since 2021, she has been with the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Disaster Medical System, which deploys teams of forensic professionals to natural and man-made disasters. 

Dr. A. is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and an active member of both the National Association of Medical Examiners and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners. She has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and delivered presentations at national and international conferences, showcasing her expertise and commitment to advancing the field of forensic pathology.
